As expected, May saw an upswing in home closings. The increase in the number of closings is partly due to the April 27th tornadoes. The storms pushed many of the April closings into May. The sales numbers also showed there were approximately 70 less homes sold compared to May 2010 when the first time buyer tax credit was in place.

Huntsville and Madison County saw an increase of 37% in sold listings in May 2011 when compared to April 2011. The average sales price decreased by 8% to $189,303. The average price per square foot decreased by 17% in May 2011 when compared to April 2010. And the average list price decreased by 8%, while homes were on the market the same amount of days as April 2011.
