Redstone Arsenal Hosts Oktoberfest

It's fascinating how often Huntsville's pioneering aerospace engineers factor into other aspects of life here.

For instance, Redstone Arsenal began hosting an Oktoberfest about 20 years ago to celebrate the German heritage of those who originally helped America rocket into outer space.



In addition to all those delicious beers (see adjacent story), Redstone's Soldatenstube restaurant will offer a variety of schnitzels, bratwrust and other robust German dishes.

Festival favorite Terry Cavanaugh and the Alpine Express will bang out oompah beats from 6 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Lederhosen is optional.

Kids flock to Oktoberfest's carnival area, especially the signature Ferris wheel � and parents appreciate the fact rides are included in their ticket price. And if you can't stand the thought of missing one down of gridiron action of your beloved Tide, Tigers, Falcons or Titans, Oktoberfest has your back: The Sports Tent features five HD TVs for you to watch and yell at.
