Local High School Artists Featured At Alabama A&M

Alabama A&M University is featuring the works of local high school students through Feb. 15 in the Morrison Fine Arts Building Gallery of Art. Almost 50 drawing, paintings, photographs and sculpture from students at Grissom High, Johnson High, Columbia High and Providence Middle schools are on view along with a few pieces from Alabama A&M art students and from students at Gilbert High School in Arizona.

"We wanted to provide a venue for younger artists because there's not a lot of opportunity for people of that age" to showcase their work, Alexandra Overby, a professor of art education at A&M, said. Overby said she wants to make the "New Visions" show an annual event at A&M.

The show is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a campus map, visit aamu.edu.
